Xtracycle Bay Area Mechanic position

Position Title: Lead Bicycle Mechanic and Product Specialist

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Bicycle Mechanic to join our team.  Along with the customary duties of a shop mechanic you will also be looked upon to become an Xtracycle product specialist to assist our customer support team and product manager. 

This is an in-person position that will require you to work out of the Mill Valley location and work at least 1 weekend day per week.

Responsibilities

Bicycle Assembly, Repair and Technical Support  

• Assemble bicycles with all required accessories. 
• Inspect bikes for safety and functionality. 
• Assist customers with bike fittings and provide recommendations for accessories. 
• Diagnose and service bicycles that are brought into the Xtracycle showroom. 
• Provide support via email and phone to partner shops building and servicing Xtracycle bikes. 
• Understand the needs of our customers and dealers outside of the Bay Area in order to provide expert advice on repairs and potential upgrades to their Xtracycle bikes. 
• Keep track of service tickets and client support calls. 
  
  

Product Testing and Design

• Conduct hands-on testing of new and existing products to evaluate performance.  
• Identify and document defects and usability issues with new and existing products. Provide and document solutions to these issues. 
• Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies to assist in product development. 
  
  

In-Person Customer Relations

• Lead people on individual test rides and advise them on how to operate a cargo bike.   
• Explain some of the many benefits of our cargo bikes and how they can help foster a healthier, more effective way to do many everyday tasks. 
• Help people determine which of our cargo bikes would best fit their needs.  

Help with the Functioning of the Showroom 

• Along with other Xtracycle employees, ensure regular shop open hours. 
• Help with inventory and regular stock counts. 
• Help keep the physical space clean and tidy. 
• Help with incoming and outgoing deliveries.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a bicycle mechanic or similar role 
• Strong customer service skills with a comfort to communicate with clients of varying cycling experience
• Proficiency in using e-bike tools for bike repairs and maintenance
• Familiarity with cargo bikes and their potential to positively impact everyday transportation
• Attention to detail

Compensation

This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week at $25-$30 / hour.
