Sat. July 13 – Sat. July 20 – NYC – 718 Cyclery – 2019 Summer Tour: The Adirondacks
“Since we began our touring series, the 718 Summer Tour has been the Adirondack Loop. This is a well-traveled lap around the Adirondack Park in Northern New York State. Adirondack Park is absolutely stunning and, despite being located in the crowded northeast, is one of the largest nature preserves in the country.
Our version of the loop begins and ends in Schenectady and thus requires a train ride from Penn Station, (or in my case a drive in a truck full of bicycles). Schenectady is located on the Mohawk River, a handful of miles from the Mohawk’s confluence with the Hudson. It is the home of General Electric, and is arguably the easternmost city in the rust belt. After assembling the group and the bikes at the Amtrak station, the ride rolls through Schenectady’s version of Little Italy (which might be called Tiny Italy) and onto a rail-trail that sneaks between city blocks, past the edge of Union College and down to the Mohawk.”
See event page for more details and to register.

Sun. July 14 – NYC – 718 Cyclery – Day Hike: Bull Hill
7:30am – 3:30pm at Breakneck Ridge REGISTRATION REQUIRED
Drop your Sunday plans and come hike with us. Bull Hill Short Loop is a 4.3 mile hike starting with a steep incline to great views the hike then stays moderately flat and ends with a steady decline along a creek and ruins. This is a quick, challenging and rewarding hike that shows just how easy it is to step out of the city and onto the trails. You will see views of the Hudson River and Storm King Mountain and feel REALLY great about grabbing an ice cream, beer or snack in Cold Springs after climbing and descending this mountain. See event page for more details and to register.
Mon. July 15 – PHILADELPHIA – Firth & Wilson – Bike Shop Beach Day
10:30am – 3pm at 1315 N. Howard St.
Join us for a casual gathering at the beach. This time we’re headed to Atlantic City at the very north end in front of The Ocean at 101 Boardwalk. Street parking nearby and restrooms on the beach at S. New Hampshire Avenue. We usually arrive at the beach around 10:30-ish and depart mid-afternoon. Come and go as you please. Even though it’s by the boardwalk there doesn’t appear to be much going on so we recommend bringing your own refreshments. The beach is free and there is a life guard on duty.
The most direct route is via The Atlantic City Expressway. Travel time from the city is about 1 hour and there are tolls. Rain date to be announced.
Wed. July 17 – WASHINGTON D.C. – Bicycle maintenance Essentials Class – Ivy City
6:30 pm – 8:30pm REGISTRATION REQUIRED (Class is free)
We can all agree that if you treat your bike well, it’ll perform reliably. But many riders don’t know the fundamentals of taking care of their bike. We might wonder: ‘How much air should I be putting into my tires? What do I do if I get a flat tire? When should I lube the chain?’ Not to worry, bicycle repair is much easier than rocket science. Join us every third Wednesday of the month at BicycleSPACE Ivy City for a free class covering the Essentials of Bicycle Maintenance, and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with a deeper understanding of your bicycle.
Over an fun and friendly hour and a half, we’ll cover:
ABCQ Pre-Ride Checks
Fixing a flat tire (Bring a front wheel if you’d like to get a bit more hands-on)
How and when to lubricate a chain
What to bring with you to be prepared on a ride
Class sizes are limited so that our staff instructors can help attendees get their hands dirty, so RSVP now to save your seat. We’ll also make it easier to stock up your repair kit with a discount on tools and repair items after the class- don’t miss it!
