Can you take an S.U.B. on public transportation?

The Xtracycle Sport Utility Bicycle is the first cargo bike people can transport on a commuter train—it’s light, carryable, and has the look of a regular bike. Removing the front wheel will allow it to fit on some trains that have vertical bike storage.

On buses like Greyhound, the S.U.B. will fit underneath, fully assembled (though Greyhound in particular currently requires bikes to be in boxes). For plane trips, remove the FreeRadical and pack both the bike and the FreeRadical in a large bike box. (It takes about 10 minutes to remove and 20 to reinstall.) Alternatively, and most would say better, just leave it assembled except for the pedals and handlebars and tape one and a half bike boxes together for the extra length.

It will fit on some city bus racks but not all. Here's how: if you take the front wheel off the x, you can put the bike in the standard front-of-bus wheeltray rack. The bottom bracket rests on the rack and the arm that normally holds the front tire in instead holds the top tube down. Put the wheel in the FreeLoader, and carry a short cam strap with for an additional measure of security if the bike seems un-bomber.
